Dennis “Hootie” Ford has been passionate about cutting hair since the age of 12, starting by giving haircuts to his friends as a kid. That early love for the craft eventually evolved into a career, and in 2020, he opened Mankind Barber Lounge, his first owned shop and the first Black-owned business in downtown Sarasota. A true entrepreneur and natural people person, Hootie is a master barber with advanced training and certifications in dreadlocks and extensions, capable of handling every aspect of hair styling with skill and precision. Though he previously operated a shop on U.S. 41, he closed it due to landlord issues and is now preparing to open a new location at Fruitville and Lime. As both a leader in his field and his community, Hootie continues to set the standard for excellence and representation in the barbering industry.
ALBERT
Albert A. A. Cartenuto IV has been working at ManKind Barber Lounge since November 2020. Native of Miami, FL, has lived in Sarasota/bradenton since January 2014. Started cutting hair in the fall of 2016 while attending Salem University in West Virginia, where he completed his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Business Administration-Management and was both a member of the baseball team and a graduate assistant coach. Albert has attended numerous continuing education classes, seminars, and expositions for barbering: expanding upon a diverse portfolio of services offered to his clients, ranging from fades and shaves to textuted shear cuts. Manager of MKBL since May 2021. Easy going, dedicated to perfecting his craft. Offers a variety of Slick Gorilla products for sale to clients. Reese "Cash" Cook has been a highly-requested barber at Mankind Barber Lounge for the last 5 years. A diverse talent, Cash can perform on all styles, textures, and age groups. His attention to detail, his easy personality and ability to connect with people are critical aspects to his success, reflected in his pre-barbering career in sales.Cash is all about giving you a clean, sharp look that fits your style and vibe! He is very confident at executing any task from designs, tapers, curly styles, long hair styles, fades, beards, you name it. Whatever your look is, you're in good hands when you're in his chair!

Landon Garrett is a young licensed barber from Sarasota, Florida, who made history in 2021 as the youngest licensed barber in the state. Completely committed to his craft, his sense of style and skill with a straight razor make Lando's work stand out, including detailed razor-cut designs and super clean edges. Known for taking attention to detail to another level, Landon is a highly skilled and diverse barber with the ability to work with all hair textures. Born and raised in Sarasota, he pairs his passion for precision grooming with a strong love for clothes and fashion, blending style and craftsmanship in every cut.

A life-long Sarasota resident, Roberto had his introduction to barbering by cutting his brothers' hair. A licensed barber since 2022, Roberto has been working with Hootie at Mankind Barber Lounge since October 2022, and welcomes clients with any type of hair or style. A long-time practitioner of martial arts, especially Jiu Jit Su, Roberto brings the same dedication and attention to detail to his work at Mankind.

Brading Specialist
Learning to braid do her own hair at 9 years old placed Sharlee on the path to professional haircare. She started brading her friend's hair at 14 which cemented her career path as a stylist. Shar has developed her own braid and twist designs, along with a line of her own all-natural hair care products. "Keeping my clients hair health while having braids, and my focus on natural hair care helps me give my clients at Mankind Barber Lounge the best possible experience", Shar says.
FLACKO
Concepcion "Flacko" Calzada is a lifelong Bradenton resident who has been cutting hair professionally since 2020. Starting as a hobby, Flaco found his passion in the artistry of hair cutting and styling. He approaches each haircut with precision and attention to detail, ensuring that every client leaves feeling confident and satisfied. Since joining Mankind, Flacko has honed his skills to provide a wide range of services, from classic fades to modern cuts.

Shabriella has been creating custom Locs for over 12 years. Brie can create or mimic any style, specializing in growing long an healthy locs. With Braders and Wrap Certificates, Brie has trained in Wick maintenance and Loc combining. She placed second in the Bronner Brothers dreadloc class for fastest re-twist and styling competition in 2024.
